10 Boy Bands That Dominated The 90s

1. Backstreet
Boys: The Backstreet
Boys (often abbreviated as BSB) consists of Nick Carter, Howie
Dorough, AJ McLean, and cousins Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson. They were
formed in 1993.
Before dominating the charts with "I Want It That Way," they were
almost called "The Magic Knights! Got the name "Backstreet Boys"
from an Orlando flea market called the Backstreet Market. Now that's a magical
twist!
2. Boyz II Men: Formed in 1985, Nathan Morris, Wanyá Morris, Shawn Stockman and Michael McCary (sadly left the group in 2003 due to health issues) were the famous quartet in 1990s. Their first single to peak the chart, "End of the Road" was released in 1992 and set a then-record for holding the number one spot on Billboard Hot 100 for thirteen weeks! Their soulful harmonies and timeless ballads made them more than just teen idols, proving that boy bands could be serious musicians.
3. New Kids on the Block: New Kids on the Block (also initialized as NKOTB) is an American boy band from Dorchester, Massachusetts consists of brothers Jonathan and Jordan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, and Danny Wood. They made us swoon with "Step by Step", “Tonight”, “Hanging Tough”, “Happy Birthday” and “Tonight”, but did you know they were almost called "The Chocolate Monkeys"? Thankfully, they opted for something a bit less.
4. NSYNC: Also stylized as *NSYNC or 'N Sync is an American boy band formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1995 and launched in Germany by BMG Ariola Munich. The group consists of Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass, and JC Chasez. Their self-titled debut album was successfully released to European countries in 1997, and later debuted in the U.S. market with the single "I Want You Back". From Justin's curly hair to JC's iconic hat, these guys were a pop culture juggernaut. But did you know their iconic "Bye Bye Bye" was originally written for Michael Jackson? Talk about a close call!
5. Take That: Take That's original name was The Cutest Rush (consists of Gary Barlow and Mark Owen) before Robbie Williams, Howard Donald and Jason Orange joined the band (they then called themselves Kick It). Not long, they changed their name to Take That and Party, before finally settling on to Take That. This British boy band had a dramatic ups and downs, with Robbie Williams leaving and then returning years later! Despite the drama, they’ve sold over sold 19 million records.
6. Westlife: Formed in Dublin in 1998, Westlife consists of members Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne and Brian McFadden (he left in in 2004). Originally named Westside, the group was renamed Westlife after the group discovered a number of existing bands shared the same name. Their third No. 1 single (released in 1999), "Flying Without Wings" was included on the soundtrack of the Warner Brothers film, Pokémon: The Movie 2000.
7. Hanson: The brothers Hanson (Isaac, Taylor and Zac) took the world by storm with their hit "MMMBop" in 1997. At the time of the music video, the boys were 16, 14, and 11 years old. Did you know they were all homeschooled and wrote their own music from a young age? Talk about talented!
8. 98 Degrees: Stylized as 98°, the group includes brothers Nick and Drew Lachey, Jeff Timmons, and Justin Jeffre. The name “98 Degrees” refers to both what was the then-commonly accepted number for the temperature of the average human body and the steamy nature of the group's R&B-indebted music. This boy band was known for their clean-cut image and catchy tunes like "Give Me Just One Night." And after an appearance in the animated movie Mulan, and singing "True to Your Heart", a duet with Stevie Wonder, their album 98 Degrees and Rising went 4× platinum in 1998!
9. Color Me Badd: An American contemporary R&B consists of lead singer Bryan Abrams, tenor Mark Calderon, second tenor Sam Watters and baritone Kevin Thornton. Best known for their singles "I Wanna Sex You Up", "I Adore Mi Amor" and "All 4 Love", the group has sold over 12 million records worldwide. Their songs have been featured in movies and television programs including New Jack City, Mo' Money, No Strings Attached and Glee. They even made a cameo appearance as themselves on a 1992 episode of Beverly Hills, 90210.
10. Boyzone: Boyzone is an Irish boy band, created in 1993 consists of Keith Duffy, Stephen Gately, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating, and Shane Lynch. The release of the cover version of "Love Me for a Reason", broke into the British charts. Well, did you know "Love Me for a Reason" is originally by Johnny Bristol? It was re-recorded by The Osmonds and 20 years later, Boyzone covered this song.
